[44] φάντες: imperf. partic., they who believed; of an incorrect view, as B 37 and freq.

καλόν: seldom is an adj. at the close of one verse in close connection with a noun at the beginning of the next, § 1 g. Many apparent exceptions to this rule can be explained, as 1.78, 156, 283. This arrangement of words may have been chosen here in order to give increased prominence to “εἶδος”.
