Old-sand.


Founding.) The sand forming the floor of the molding-shop to the depth of two or three feet, and filling the deep pits under the cranes. It is generally quite black, is weak and friable, and unfit for the face of any mold. On the other hand, its porous character makes it well suited for filling the flasks over the facing-sand.
