Pearl-barley ma-chine′.

A machine for taking the hull from barley grains.

The grain is placed in one of the two hoppers, and passes through the annular space between the toothed cylinder and the case. The cylinder has horizontal toothed rings alternating with plain ones. The shell has holes with the burrs inside, and oblique slots which incline to the right and left, to operate when the cylinder is turned in either direction, according as the grain is furnished by one or the other hopper. An adjustable fan-blast removes the husks from the machine. From the elevator the grain passes over a screen which keeps back the unhusked grain, and the same is returned to the alternate hopper.
