Sil′hou-ette In′stru-ment.

An instrument for tracing profiles. The end a of the rod being furnished with a lead-pencil and resting against [2179] the sheet of paper, a person sits in position that the end b of the rod may be made to follow the profile of the features and head, the diminution in the size of the drawing being dependent upon the relative distances of the subject and the paper from the axis of oscillation of the rod.
