Grap′nel.

1. A small anchor having five or six hooks arranged in a circular manner on the end of the shank, which terminates in a ring to which the cable is attached. It is used by small vessels and boats, and sometimes as a kedge in warping or hauling.

2. An implement for recovering tools, etc., dropped into a bored shaft; or for breaking and raising the axial stem left by the annular borer. See grab; grapple.
