Pe-tro′le-um-lamp.

A lamp for burning coaloil. See list under lamp for varieties.

The lamp (Fig. 3659) is particularly designed for use where, as in hot climates, a strong artificial current of air is produced by fans or punkahs. The reservoir with its chimney d is supported on a hollow pillar f f, and is surrounded by a shade b b covered by a cap, so that access of external air is prevented, except through perforations at the base of the pillar, which admit sufficient to support combustion. Suitable orifices in the cap permit the escape of the hot air. The burners two or more in number, have flat wicks, but may each form a segment of an ellipse or circle.
