Son′i-fer.

An acoustic instrument for collecting sound and conveying it to the ear of a partially deaf person. It is an instrument of metal, of a bell shape, and is placed upon a table with its mouth in the direction whence the sound proceeds; the volume of sound is collected in the bottom of the instrument, and conducted by a flexible pipe to the ear.
