Sul′phur-ing.


1. (Bleaching.) A process of bleaching by exposure to the fumes of sulphur. It is adopted with straw-braid, straw hats, silks, woolens, etc. Sulphurous acid is the bleaching agent, and may be applied by means of a watery solution.


2. (Calico-printing.) The process of exposing printed calicoes to sulphurous-acid fumes. It is an incident in the fixation of steam-colors.
