1. (Surgical.) A compress of lint flattened between the hands and laid over an ulcer or wound to exclude air, retain dressings, or absorb discharges. It differs from a tent in that the latter is a roll of lint introduced into a wound or ulcer to keep it from closing.


2. (Nautical.) A string of oakum used in calking.
