Proof-house.

A house fitted up for proving barrels of fire-arms. They are extra heavily charged, laid on a bench, primed, and fired by a train of powder into a bank of sand. The average loss in England is four per cent on 600,000 barrels annually. A second proving takes place, when the piece is ready for assembling.
