Char′ger.
1. (Mining.) A spiral instrument for charging horizontal blast-holes. 2. A device for dropping into the bore of a fowling-piece from a shot-belt or pouch a gaged quantity of shot. By forcing down the plunger the communication with the pouch is closed, and the charge is allowed to pass to the tube, which conducts it to the gun. The piston-head is adjustable, to vary the capacity of the charge-chamber.
