Punch′ing and Shear′ing ma-chine′.

Metal-working.) A machine by which the operations of punching and shearing may be simultaneously effected. In that illustrated, the main frame a a a is made hollow; the pulley b is driven by belting, and is on the same shaft with the flywheel c.

Gears, one of which is shown at d, actuate the wheel c keyed on a shaft which operates two eccentrics, one actuating the punching slide f, and the other the shearing slide g, through the medium of connecting-rods. At h is a bar for lifting the punch without stopping the machine.

In the smallest machines of this kind the punching and shearing devices are on the same side. In the largest the driving-gear is somewhat differently arranged, but the operative mechanism is similar to the above.
