Sort′ing-ma-chine′.

Fig. 5318 is a machine for gaging leather strips as they are cut from the [2247] hide to certain regulated sizes. The strips pass between two rollers c d, the lower one of which turns in fixed bearings, and the upper is journaled in a lever g, which operates a rack and a pinion carrying an index, which indicates upon a dial the degree of separation of the rollers corresponding to the thickness of the leather then passing between them, and enabling the operator to assort the strips.
