Slid′ing-way.
(Shipbuilding.) One of the structures on each side of and parallel with the keel, supporting the bilgeways of the cradle whereon the vessel rests in launching. The sliding-ways are the inclined planes down which the vessel slides, and are made of planks 3 or 4 inches wide, laid on blocks of wood. See launch.
