A prop or supporter.1. (Shipwrighting.) a. One of the wooden props by which the ribs or frame of a vessel is externally supported while building; or by which the vessel is laterally supported on the stocks. b. A timber temporarily placed beneath a beam to afford additional support to the deck, when taking in the lower masts. c. A strut used to support a mast in heaving down. d. The cap-shore is a beam placed forward of a cap to support it. A vessel is supported in a dock by breast-shores.
2. (Building.) A dead-shore is a temporary post beneath a wall to carry the superstructure during repairs.
