Suc′tion-valve.

1. The valve below the plunger or bucket of a pump, and which is lifted by atmospheric pressure acting upon the water beneath it, as the plunger is raised.


2. (Steam-engine.) The valve through which the water is drawn from the hot-well into the feed-pump by the rise of the plunger. See feed-pump.
