Piv′ot-lathe.

A small lathe used by watchmakers for turning the pivots on the ends of arbors for watch-movements.

Pivot-lathe.

In the example, the staff on which the pivot is to be turned is sustained in a laterally adjustable rest, with an axial support in the rear; the head which supports the spindle of the cutting-tool is adjustable laterally; the shank of the burnisher is socketed in a transversely adjustable rest.
