Queen–post.

Queen-posts are mortised or attached by iron straps to the tie-beam of a roof-frame, supporting it and the rafters at points between the ridge and cave. Purlins rest upon the principal rafters, and common rafters rest upon the purlins. The former are let into the tie-beam, and the latter butt against the pole-plates.
