(Surgical.) a. An opening made for the passage of rays of light by the removal of a portion of the iris. The operation is to obviate the effect of opacity of the lens, or adhesion or permanent contraction of the iris. The operation is iridectomy. b. Artificial pupil is formed also by simply dislocating the natural pupil. The iris is drawn out through a small incision, and a piece of it tied off by fine ligature; the ligatured piece of iris sloughs off in a few days, and the pupil remains in its new position. Irido-desis. c. The operation is also formed by dividing with scissors the iris by two incisions, diverging from each other, the loosened triangular-shaped flaps of iris being left 10 shrivel up.
