Pel′ham-bit.

A bit having a flat, direct-acting joint and cheek-pieces, with bridle-rings at the mouth-piece, and a ring or loop upon the upper arm of the cheek and a loose ring on the lower one. It can be used as a curb or for a double cheek-bridle. This name is also given to bits having loose-jointed and port mouths with straight or crooked cheeks.
