Sus-pend′er.

A strap or pair of crossed straps over the shoulders to hold up the trousers. They usually have bifurcated ends in front and single ends behind, fastening to four buttons in front and two behind.

The example uses but two buttons, and those on the sides. The suspenders are so formed that the strain shall act on a common center, and also serve as a brace to the shoulders.
