Scarf′ing-ma-chine′.

A machine for tapering or shaving the ends of leathern belts where they lap to form a joint. It has an upper or “hand-wheel shaft,” having right and left screws at its ends, playing in wedges which act upon the vertically sliding [2052] boxes of the upper or gage roller, so that the leather, which is fed with a drawing motion against the knife, may be tapered or scarfed to an edge, — feather-edged.

Belt-scarfing machine.
