Short-pile.
(Hydraulic Engineering.) A stick of round timber from 6 to 9 inches in diameter, and from 6 to 12 feet long. Such are driven as closely as possible without causing the driving of one pile to raise the adjacent ones. They are used to compress and consolidate ground for foundations.
