Rout′er-plane.

It has a broad surface, carrying in its center one of the cutters belonging to the plow. It is used for leveling the bottoms of cavities. The stock must be more than twice the width of the recess, and the projection of the iron determines the depth. The sides of the cavity are prepared beforehand by the chisel and mallet, the saw, or the cutting-gage. See b, Fig. 4481.
