[*] 293. As οὐ cannot be used with the interrogative subjunctive, μή here sometimes introduces a question which expects an affirmative answer. See XEN. Mem. i. 2, 36 , and PLAT. Rep. 337 B, PLAT. Rep. 554 B, quoted in 287; and compare XEN. Oec. iv. 4 (ibid.), where a negative answer is expected. In PLAT. Rep. 552 E, we must read μὴ οἰώμεθα (not οἰόμεθα, Herm. ), shall we not think? as the answer must be affirmative (see Stallbaum's note).
