[109] αὖ as 104. παρὰ οὖς: the hiatus can hardly be right. P. Knight read “παρ᾽ ὄας” (“ὄϝας”), Fick “παραὶ οὖας ἔλασσέ τε, ἔκ τ᾽ ἔβαλ᾽ ἵππων”, Nauck “αὖτ᾽ οὖας ἔλασε”, on the ground that “οὖας” is the Homeric form. “οὖς” recurs only 20.473, Od. 12.200ὠσίν”, elsewhere we find only the stem “οὐατ-”.
