[187] The cross-bar thereon was of silver. The ζυγόν was the bar, joining the two horns of the lyre, to which the strings were fastened by the pegs (Od. 21.407κόλλοπες”). The form “ζυγός” was apparently preferred by the scholiasts, but is not strongly attested by the MSS., though not uncommon in later Greek. Cf. 13.706, 16.470, and particularly 24.269.
