[21] Κύπρονδε: a pregnant expression, the idea of sound coming to a place being involved in its being heard there. Cf. 4.455 “τηλόσε ἔκλυε. οὕνεκα”, that, expressing the content of the fame he heard. This use is not found again in the Iliad, but cf. Od. 5.216, Od. 7.300, and several other passages in But Od. we can give it the usual meaning because (as 54, 1.11, etc.), if with Brandreth and von Christ we join it with “δῶκε” in the preceding line, putting a comma after “εἶναι” and taking “πεύθετο .. κλέος” as a parenthesis. The following “τούνεκα δῶκε” is in favour of this.
