[641] καὶ αἴθοπα, an unmetrical reading. “καί τ᾽”, Bentley. It would be better to read “ἠδ᾽” with Brandreth as in Od. 7.295. “καί” may have slipped in from a reminiscence of Od. 12.19σῖτον καὶ κρέα πολλὰ καὶ αἴθοπα οἶνον ἐρυθρόν”, and the similar Od. 19.197. Compare also 16.226, and see App. N, § 20.
