[148] ἠμύει, the crop bends with its ears. ἐπί, before the blast. For the change from subj. to indic. compare 9.324, 11.156. But the junction of the two by “τε” is very harsh; we ought to read either “ἐπὶ δ᾽” or “ἠμύηι”. So in 11.156 Heyne read “πάντηι δ᾽”. For the character of “Ζέφυρος” as a stormy wind see 23.200.
