It breaks the connexion of the passage, and is quite unsuitable here, as ἔφερεν, though in place where the gifts are being brought out of a hut, is meaningless where the ransom is being chosen from the chests, and remains for the present in the “θάλαμος” (it is only removed in 275). The weighing, too, is required only where the exact payment of a promised sum is in question.
