[455] τηλόσε: the use of the terminus ad quem instead of a quo is frequent in cases like this; the reaching to a distance is regarded as a property of the power of hearing, not of the sound, 16.515δύνασαι δὲ σὺ πάντοσ᾽ ἀκούειν”, cf. 11.21πεύθετο γὰρ Κύπρονδε μέγα κλέος”. Of course the converse is common too, 9.572ἔκλυεν ἐξ Ἐρέβεσφιν,11.603κλισίηθεν ἀκούσας”.
