[231] μέσωι ἕρκεϊ, where there stood the altar of Zeus “Ἕρκειος”, the hut being regarded as possessing the forecourt of the ordinary heroic house; cf. 1.774, Od. 22.334, and for a full collection of passages in later Greek, Jebb's note on Soph. Ant. 487.On account of the rhythm Turnebus read “μέσωι στάς”, Bentley “ἔπειτ᾽ ἀνστάς” (and so Syr.).
