[252] There is not much to choose between ὄψεσθαι of MSS. and “ἵξεσθαι” of Ar. (“οὐκ ἄχαρις γραφἡ”, Did.). A similar variation is found in Od. 17.448μὴ τάχα πικρὴν Αἴγυπτον καὶ Κύπρον ἴδηαι”, al.ἵκηαι”. ἄϊον, breathed out, from “ἀϝ-ίω”, cf. “ἄϝ-ημι”, and “θυμὸν ἀΐσθων16.468 (whence van Herwerden conj. “ἦτορ ἄϊσθον” here, as “ἀΐω” does not recur in this sense). Similarly “ψυχὴν ἐκάπυσσεν22.467.
