[*] 83. The forms “ἐστί” and “εἰσί” of the copula are omitted in saws and proverbs, in short statements and questions, rapid transitions, abstract expressions. So regularly with -“τέον, ἀνάγκη, ὥρα”, and the like. Other forms than “ἐστί” or “εἰσί” more rarely. Cf. also 9. “βραχὺς ὁ ἔλεγχος” (sc. “ἐστίν”), LYCURG.33; Brief is the proof.
