The passive is sometimes used in a permissive sense. “τί ποιοῦσιν; . . . οὐ καταλιπόντες τὴν χώραν . . . ᾤχοντο, . . . ἀλλ᾽ ἐπολιορκοῦντο”, LYCURG.85; What did they do? . . . They suffered themselves to be besieged. LYCURG.40: “γυναῖκας . . . ἀναξίως αὑτῶν καὶ τῆς πόλεως ὁρωμένας”. Ibid. 85 (see above). R.
