προσφέρων, bringing home. The act. denotes the simple act of ‘carrying towards’ the cave; the midd. “προσφερόμενος” would have further expressed that the food was for his own use. Cp. 708 “αἴρων”: O. C. 6“φέροντα” (=“φερόμενον”).
