ἱκέτης strengthens ἱκνοῦμαι much as in O. T. 760, “ἐξικέτευσε τῆς ἐμῆς χειρὸς θιγών”, the verb is strengthened by the added phrase, which serves to mark the attitude of formal supplication. Cp. below, O. T. 930.For “ἱκνεῖσθαι”=“ἱκετεύειν”, cp. 932, O. C. 275 and 1011: Ai. 588: El. 136.
