ἀσπιστῆρες. The Salaminian followers of Ajax are at once seamen and warriors; as Thuc. (1. 10 § 4) says of the Greeks who went against Troy, “αὐτερέται.. ἦσαν καὶ μάχιμοι πάντες.” χάριν, this act of kindness; viz., care for the child.
