εύσχευοῦμεν: ‘I am well equipped’: the preparations are complete. The verb occurs nowhere else; nor is “εὔσκευος” found. ἐκ δὲ τῶνδε, in the next place: cp. 537 n. Ζεῦ. He invokes (1) Zeus, to apprise Teucer: (2) Hermes, to be his guide to the shades: (3) the Erinyes, to avenge him: (4) Helios, to give tidings at Salamis: (5) Thanatos, to bring the end. καὶ γὰρ εἰκός: since Zeus is the ancestor of the Aeacidae (387). αἰτήσομαι: for the fut., cp. 681 n. The verb takes a double acc., and λαχεῖν (sc. “αὐτό”) is epexegetic inf.: cp. O. T. 1255“φοιτᾷ γὰρ ἡμᾶς ἔγχος ἐξαιτῶν πορεῖν” (‘that we should give it’): Ant. 1098“εὐβουλίας δεῖ..λαβεῖν. ” μακρὸν=“μέγα” (130 n.).
