ἐπὶ κωκυτῷ: the prep. is not merely=‘with,’ but implies, ‘with continual wailing’: see n. on Ant. 759ἐπὶ ψόγοισι.

ἠχὼ, a resounding cry (of grief); cp. Eur. Hipp. 790ἴστε τίς ποτ᾽ ἐν δόμοις βοή”; | “ἠχὼ βαρεῖα προσπόλων μ᾽ ἀφίκετο”.
