χεῖρες: she takes his hands in her own. This explains why the poet has not written “φιλτάτας..χεῖρας”: we see, too, how natural is the transition to “ἔχων”, as she is looking in her old friend's face. The sense is, “ἔχων πόδας οἳ τὰ ἥδιστα ὑπηρέτησαν”, viz., in the journeys to and from Phocis.
