ἀποτρύειν, ‘fret away.’ The midd. occurs in Ant.339γᾶν...ἀποτρύεται”. (Cp. Tac. Hist. 2. 76si quid... ferociae habuit,...commissationibus deteritur.”)

ἐλπίδα τὰν ἀγαθὰν, that brighter forecast which the case permits: cp. Ai.606κακὰν ἐλπίδ᾽ ἔχων”.
