βάλλουσαν with dat., in the sense of “ἐμ-” or “ἐπιβάλλουσαν” ( Ph.67 n.).— στρωτὰ goes closely with the partic.,— spreading them as coverings, “στώματα.— φάρη”: the Homeric “φᾶρος” is not thus used; but cp. Od.4. 297 ff., where the bed (“δέμνια”) is spread with “ῥήγεα” (‘blankets’), “τάπητες” (‘rugs’), and woollen “χλαῖναι” as coverlets.
