ἕρκος ἱερὸν, a sacred temenos, where there might chance to be a blazing altar (she is thinking of vv. 237 f.): ἐφέστιον σέλας, any fire kindled in the warrior's quarters at Cenaeum. She is repeating the substance of the Centaur's precepts: see 685 f.
