ἀμφὶ with dat., ‘in the case of,’ Ph.1354 n.

μὴ ᾿ξ ἑκουσίας: cp. 395: Ph.467μὴ ᾿ξ ἀπόπτου”. The adverbial phrase would properly precede “σφαλεῖσι”: but cp. Ant.659 n.

πέπειρα (related to “πέπων” as “πίειρα” to “πίων”) is attested by the grammarians, but extant only in Anacreon fr. 87. Hippocrates Acut.390 has “πέπειρος νόσος”, and Ar. Eccl.896ἐν ταῖς πεπείροις” (Rav. “πεπείραις”).—For the sentiment, cp. fr. 599 “ἄκων δ᾽ ἁμαρτὼν οὔτις ἀνθρώπων κακός”.
