ἐγκρατεῖς, sc. “τῶν παίδων”: φεύγουσιν, sc. “οἱ ἐξειργασμένοι” (1016), Creon's guards. Theseus is not sure whether these guards have merely carried the sisters to some spot in Attica, at which they are to await Creon himself, or are already in full flight with them to Boeotia.
