οὐ στενακτὸς, “"not with wailing."” Some assume a definitely active sense, “"not wailing"”; see last n., and add “μεμπτός” “"blaming"” (Tr. 446). Others make it definitely passive, “"not bewailed."” The thought is that his end was “"not accompanied by “στεναγμοί"”,” and the poet probably meant to suggest both ideas. Cp. on “σωτήριον” 487. σὺν νόσοις: cp. O. T. 17 “σὺν γήρᾳ βαρεῖς.” ἀλγεινὸς, associated with “ἄλγος”, here as feeling, not as causing, it: thus only here. Analogous is Pind. Ol. 1.26 “καθαροῦ λέβητος”, the cauldron of cleansing, where Fennell cp. Theocr. 24. 95 “καθαρῷ δὲ πυρώσατε δῶμα θεείῳ”.
