In the MS. order of the words, “ἰὼ Ζεῦ, πάνταρχε θεῶν” (monosyll.)=1074 “ἔρδουσ᾽ μέλλουσιν; ὡς”, and “παντόπτα, πόροις”=1075 “προμνᾶταί τί μοι”. This requires the final α of the voc. παντόπτα to be long, which is impossible, though some edd. tacitly assume it. Meineke's remedy, “παντόπτ᾽ ”, is not probable: and “παντόπτας” (nom. for voc.) could not stand here. The simple transposition which I have made in the text removes the difficulty. In 1088 the MSS. have “ἐπινικείῳ σθένει”: yet it is certain that the order of the words should be the reverse.
