κατ᾽ ἄκρας, "utterly," in the sense of "violently": perh. with a reminiscence of Od. 5.313 “῾θυοτεδ βψ ξαμπβελλ̓ὡς ἄρα μιν εἰπόντ᾽ ἔλασεν μέγα κῦμα κατ᾽ ἄκρης”, "the great wave smote down on him" (Odysseus on his raft): in Ant. 201 “πρῆσαι κατ᾽ ἄκρας” (of destroying a city). κυματοα_γεῖς, breaking like billows.
